2. Online Registration Opens for Tax Forums on March 1; Check Out This Year's Cities


Tax professionals should make plans to attend the 2010 IRS Nationwide Tax Forums, which will be held in Atlanta, Chicago, Orlando, Fla; New York, and Las Vegas.  Earn valuable CPE or CFP credits, while getting the latest updates on key federal and state tax law issues, reconnecting with friends and colleagues and enjoying networking opportunities.  Online registration opens March 1.  Program details and hotel information have been posted to the internet.

3. IRS Marks EITC Awareness Day; Highlights Expanded Tax Credit


An expanded Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) means larger families will qualify for a larger credit, offering greater tax relief.

4. Taxpayers in Nine States and the District of Columbia File with Different Centers this Year


The Internal Revenue Service has announced that some taxpayers who file paper income tax returns will send them to different processing centers this year.

Taxpayers in Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Virginia and the District of Columbia will now send their tax returns to the IRS Kansas City Service Center in Kansas City, Mo. Taxpayers in Indiana and Michigan will send their tax returns to the IRS Fresno Service Center, in Fresno, Calif. Taxpayers in Alabama will send their tax returns to the IRS Austin Service Center in Austin, Texas.

Announcement 2010-09 explains the potential content of a schedule that will require certain business taxpayers to report uncertain tax positions on their tax returns and invites public comments on the Internal Revenue Service’s approach. Announcement 2010-09 will appear IRB 2010-7, dated Feb. 16, 2010
